Floats

Fishing floats are essential visual indicators that suspend bait at a specific depth and signal the moment a fish takes the hook. Beyond simple "bobbers," modern floats are precision tools engineered for specific water conditions, ranging from the ultra-delicate pole floats used for canal fishing to the long, aerodynamic wagglers designed for casting great distances on stillwaters. Each float consists of a body for buoyancy, a "stem" for stability (often made of carbon, wire, or cane), and a brightly coloured "antenna" or tip for visibility. By carefully adding split shot to the line—a process known as shotting—anglers can submerge most of the float, leaving only the tiny tip showing, which ensures even the most cautious fish encounters zero resistance when biting.
